The President awarded a charter to Kibabii last year, making it a fully-fledged university.

In a statement to newsrooms on Tuesday, State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu said President Kenyatta is pleased to see the transformation of life around Kibabii Town, which has grown from a sleepy hamlet to a booming commercial centre, driven by activity inspired by the university.

"The education story is a great one to tell. We are not just talking about the increase in the number of university placements each year – and this year President Kenyatta allowed extra 12,000 students to be admitted to private universities, but with government support," read the statement in part.

"We are talking of increased capitation that has led to many more students in primary and secondary schools and we are talking of improved infrastructure that will significantly lift the transition rates especially from primary to secondary schools and to university," he added.

While in Bungoma County, President Kenyatta will also make an inspection tour of Webuye Pan Paper Mills ahead of its formal re-opening in mid December.
