President Uhuru Kenyatta will commission the reopening of Pan Paper Mills in Webuye during his two day tour in Western Kenya.
The company was placed under receivership 10 years ago, crippling the region’s economy.
Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka described the reopening of the paper mill as a major blessing to the region, saying it will create more jobs to locals.
Lusaka said that about 500 workers have been employed at the miller and more will still be hired.
Rai Group of Companies bought Pan Paper Mills at Sh900 million.
Some leaders from the region however, claimed it was undervalued and called for review of the deal.
President Kenyatta will also tour Kakamega and Busia counties to launch various development projects.
