A fired up President Uhuru Kenyatta has reignited debate on his unexpected handshake with Raila Odinga amid storm from within Jubilee administration.
For weeks now, DP William Ruto and a host of his allies have accused Raila of allegedly hijacking the historical handshake for his own gains.
"We cannot allow election losers to subject us to another election. Kenyans are now concerned about development," Ruto had said in a past function.
So agitated has been Ruto that he has even openly insisted that Raila lost 2017 polls even after the latter reconciled with Uhuru.
At Jacaranda grounds on Wednesday, Uhuru fired at the DP and his allies insisting that he has a right to reach to Raila for unity purposes.
"I respect all Kenyans including Raila. Just leave him alone. He is a Kenyan just like any other person," said Uhuru in indirect reference to Ruto.
He added: "I have a right to reach to him because he is a Kenyan. I am not interested in childishness that is being peddled."
While Raila has been pushing for referendum on change of governance, Uhuru has however publicly dismissed any constitutional amendment any soon.
Although the content of their secret deal remains scanty, Raila is said to have taken up the role of AU special envoy.
