President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday held talks with his Somalian counterpart Hassan Mohamoud over the banning of Kenyan miraa in the war tone country.

Uhuru and Mohamoud struck an agreement to allow Kenyan miraa planes to resume flights to Somalia following last week's ban by Mogadishu. 

The agreement was reached on Tuesday after a bilateral talks meeting between the two heads of state on the sidelines of the IGAD special summit that was held in Mogadishu. 

"This is a significant progress for our people and we thank the leadership of Somalia," President Uhuru said. 

Somalia suspended Kenyan miraa planes over what it termed as controversial remarks made by Meru Governor Peter Munya in regards to the country. 

However, on Tuesday, Somali authorities stated that the suspension was a security matter due to the IGAD summit. 

The leaders further held talks on mutual matters affecting their two countries among them security. 

Miraa which is a major source of income in Meru County and suspension led to wide criticism of Munya. 

Consequently, Munya revealed that his life was in danger following the suspension.
