President Uhuru Kenyatta has come out to explain why he wants Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot barred from participating in the October 17 Presidential re-run.

Uhuru has argued that the repeat poll is meant for the Petitioners who challenged the August 8 election.

He also added that Aukot had already conceded defeat after the August 8 election.

Uhuru was responding to a petition by Aukot seeking IEBC to add him on the list of contestants for the October 17 poll.

"I am aware that the Applicant herein, Dr. Ekuro Aukot through a press statement issued on 10th August, 2017 conceded defeat of the elections held on 8th August, 2017. He cannot therefore state that he wants to participate in the election of 17th October, 2017.Annexed herewith and marked DKC-7 is a copy of the press statement duly signed by the Applicant," said Uhuru.

He is being represented by lawyers Ogetto, Otachi and company.

"In the case, the Petitioners were only two; Raila Amolo Odinga and Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka. In line with the decision of this Court stated at paragraph 6 above, these are the only two persons together with the 3rd Respondent who are eligible to participate in the election to be held on 17th October, 2017." He added.

Aukot who garnered 27,001 votes in the August election had stated he would be on the ballot on October arguing that repeat polls will not be the preserve of President Kenyatta and Nasa leader Raila Odinga.
