President Uhuru Kenyatta has come under sharp criticism from a section of opposition legislators for holding various delegation meetings at State House.

The meetings are seeking to galvanize his re-election bid ahead of the October 17 repeat polls.

According to Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, the move by President Kenyatta to host these delegations at State House amounts to dictatorship.

In a telephone interview with The Star newspaper on Wednesday, the lawmaker accused the Head of State of turning the premises into an "arena for advancing selfish political agenda."

"Uhuru's latest meetings are reminiscent of tribal delegations to State House associated with dictatorial regimes of his father and retired president Daniel Moi," he added.

Wandayi further observed that the meetings could divide the country since they are largely tribal.

His comments came just hours after the Head of State hosted more than 10,000 delegates from Kisii region at the Nakuru State Lodge.
