Despite the looming constitutional changes, a section of leaders from Nyamira County now wants Raila Odinga to be absorbed into government.
While Raila has often dismissed claims that he will serve government, the leaders say it will be an opportunity to help President Uhuru Kenyatta cement his legacy.
ODM Youth League leader Dennis Marube said the move will ensure their shared objectives are implemented expeditiously.
"There is nothing with him working in government. Uhuru should just appoint him as Prime Minister," he said.
Borabu MP Ben Momanyi, a fierce critic of Raila added: "If he is appointed, things will move steadily in government."
A constitutional amendment bill shared by one of Raila's top aide indicates that parliament could amend section 153 of the constitution to pave way for Chief Cabinet Secretary.
The position is equivalent to that of Prime Minister given its functions involves coordinating government businesses and answering serious issues in parliament.
