President Uhuru Kenyatta’s unprecedented attack on Chief Justice David Maraga has attracted wide criticism from different quarters as official campaigns begin.

On Friday, four judges out of the possible six nullified Uhuru’s reelection on grounds that IEBC failed to conduct elections that meets constitutional requirements.

And in a quick rejoinder at Burma market, Uhuru dismissed the ruling arguing that it was made by Maraga and his ‘thugs’, a statement that has not gone down well with Maraga’s Gusii ethnic community.

A statement by journalist Nyambega Gisesa confirmed peaceful protests in solidarity with ‘Supreme Court and Maraga’ to be held in Sunday across Nyamira.

“We the members of Gusii community shall have peaceful protests in solidarity with the court and Maraga. The country’s leadership has shown outright disrespect of our constitutional institution,” he said.

“He promised to respect the ruling and it is satirical that he is doing otherwise. That is uncalled for.” He added.

Reports also indicate a council of Gusii elders will sit in Kisii town on Sunday and issue a statement in defense of Maraga.
