Kisumu Central MP Ken Obura has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to fast track his plans to visit the county.
Obura said there are critical issues that the region expected the head of state to address, saying that the politics around it should not be an impediment.
''Kenyans living in the western region have suffered long enough to continuously subjected to anxieties surrounding the visit asking leaders from Nyanza to be tolerant towards diverse opinions,'' said Obura.
He said there was also need for the president to come so that Kisumu gets its long awaited charter by actualisation of the Cities Act as stipulated in the constitution.
The MP added that the award of the City Charter was also key towards opening up opportunities locked in the lack of clarity in the status of Kisumu.
Obura at the same time implored upon the president to assent to a proposal given to him regarding schools in the region that do not have national examination codes.
The MP was speaking at Kisumu during the release of the Ken Obura examinations, a test spearheaded by the constituency development fund.
He also asked leaders from the region to join hands in rallying forces that will enable them achieve the clamour to have 45 percent of the national revenue channelled to county governments.
Obura further urged the leaders to redefine their interests to reshape development in Kisumu and work with the government of the day as they wait for 2017 general election.
