Kisii County Secondary Schools Heads Association ( Kessha) chairman Jairus Onchoke has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to retain Education Cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i in the docket.
He said the CS, also doubling up in the Interior ministry on an acting capacity, had launched several reforms in the education sector and should be given another term to oversee their implementation and completion.
Speaking on behalf of the school heads, the official explained that the CS had streamlined the management of national examinations, adding that it had curbed cheating and restored credibility.
“Headteachers support Matiang’i and are proud of him. He needs more time to introduce other reforms in the sector and set a pace for posterity” he said.
Meanwhile, Ochonke challenged elected leaders to shun interfering with the leadership of schools, noting that it would fuel conflicts, affect education and performance in examinations.
He added that Kessha is aware some politicians were creating problems in some schools to force the principals out and replace them with friends and relatives.
“I urge our elected leaders to shun interfering with the management of schools and allow the Ministry of Education and the Teachers Service Commission to do their work,” he said.
