President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto wrapped up the first day of their tour of Meru County with a rally in Meru Town where they urged residents to back Jubilee candidates.

They started their tour of the county by addressing residents of Igoji before proceeding by road, addressing more meetings at Kiandenge, Nkubu and Kariene. From Kariene, they flew to Timau from where they again drove by road to Meru where they addressed a huge rally.

Tomorrow, the President will lead the Jubilee campaign team to visit Kagaani, Mikinduri, Laare, Maua and Kangeta.

During Friday’s tour, the President and his deputy rooted for Jubilee candidates at the county level.

“Give me a Jubilee team to work with me and help me implement policies of the Jubilee Government,” said the President when he addressed the Meru rally.

Current Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi is the party’s candidate for the post of Governor while Mithika Linturi is the Senate Candidate and Florence Kajuju is gunning to retain her seat as the county’s Women Rep.

The President told residents they should not be distracted by small differences from the goal of ensuring Jubilee Party wins with a big margin at all levels.

He said the Government has achieved a lot of progress in transforming the country and will continue with the same spirit in the next five years.

The President said the Government has funded the construction of roads in the county at the cost of more than Sh20 billion.

He said more residents have had their homes connected to electricity than was done in the previous 50 years.

At Kariene the President launched construction of the Coca cola-Mpuri-Kithaku-Katheri and Kithurune – Kariene – Kaguma/Gaitu –Giaki roads at a cost of Kshs 1.8 billion while at Kiirua he launched the construction of Kisima – Kibirichia – Kiirua – Ruiru at the cost of Sh1.7 billion.

At Timau, the President also presided over the issuance of title deeds to residents of Sirimon Settlement Scheme. The President also oversaw the issuance of title deeds in Meru Town.

During the various stops in Friday’s tour, the President piled more pressure on opposition leader Raila Odinga over his divisive politics.

The President said the opposition leader should show more love for the country instead of pitting one tribe against another.

“An individual who says he will throw out some communities from where they live if he becomes President does not deserve to lead this country,” said the President.

The Deputy President on his part said the opposition has nothing but empty rhetoric for Kenyans.

“Do you want to vote for empty talk or for development which Jubilee stands for? All they have is propaganda and hate,” said the Deputy President.
