A student leader at Kisii University has blamed President Uhuru Kenyatta for the closure of the university's five satellite campuses.
Seth Adams Anunda, the speaker of the students’ union in the university, has disapproved the move to close the campuses, saying it will contribute to poor education in the Gusii region.
The campuses shut down are Ogembo, Nyamira, Keroka, Isebania, and Kehancha. An advert was featured in the daily newspapers as well as notices in the respective campuses, stating that the closure was as a result of a recommendation by the Commission for University Education (CUE) and the Advisory Committee of Eminent Persons (ACEP) appointed by the cabinet secretary for Education, Science and Technology.
“Kenyatta is applying his political powers and using CS Matiang’i to fight our university so that it does not grow,” said Anunda.
He has urged the government to reinstate the campuses and give the university more time to improve on infrastructure.
