Mombasa Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organization (MYWO) chair lady Afiya Rama has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure women are inclusively represented in the new cabinet he is set to release.

Speaking to journalists in Mombasa Town on Tuesday, Rama said that Uhuru made a pledge to ensure equal representation in government and must honor it.

The Mombasa MYWO chair-lady said that they (women) will not accept a cabinet that sidelines the female gender.

Rama claimed that the government has been sidelining women in matters leadership despite the existence of the law advocates for a 50-50 share of public positions and appointments.

“We are reminding President Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure that women are not left out of his new cabinet if he wants to leave a good legacy after his term,” she said.

The MYWO chair lady asked president Uhuru to use the opportunity and champion women welfare and interests in his government.

She also asked Uhuru to push the National Assembly and ensure that the two-thirds gender law is implemented.

President Kenyatta is expected to unveil his new cabinet as he serves his second and final term.

According to sources, several politicians who lost in the August 8 polls but campaigned for Uhuru’ re-election are likely to make it to the new cabinet.

Former Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba and his Kilifi North counterpart Gideon Mung’aro are among those likely to be awarded cabinet seats.

Intense lobbying is said to be going on as Uhuru seeks to name a cabinet that will implement his development agenda and also shape the 2022 succession politics.
