President Uhuru Kenyatta has warned foreign institutions against meddling in the polls.
Speaking during this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations, the president said that Kenyans should be let to decide their destiny.
The head of state said there is already money coming into Kenya from abroad in the guise of supporting good governance or civic education, adding that its true intention is to influence our electoral choices.
“I want to caution those members of the International Community taking these actions that the Kenyan people do not look kindly on such actions. I urge all Kenyans to reject such interference. This is our country, and no one should ever try and control our choices for their selfish interests,” he said.
In addition, President Kenyatta warned politicians against divisive politics ahead of next year's polls and challenged other presidential aspirants to either accept the results or challenge them following the legal means laid down for that purpose.
Kenyatta said he will accept the electoral choice of Kenyans in all humility.
He, however, expressed confidence that Kenyans will re-elect him for a second term in office for the work he has done since coming to power in 2013.
“Let me be perfectly clear here. I believe I have done what Kenyans asked me to do when they gave me the mandate to lead. I believe I have earned their support. I believe that next year, they will give me a second and final term in an open and transparent election,” he stated.
