President Uhuru Kenyatta has cautioned Opposition coalition NASA leaders against making inflammatory remarks ahead of the next general elections.
Speaking on Wednesday during his tour of Kajiado County, the Head of State warned that inciting remarks could throw the country into disarray, citing 2007 post-poll violence that left over 1,000 people dead and thousands displaced.
He singled out NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga, who he accused of dividing the country along tribal lines.
“It is this stance of war mongering that we must guard against. It is this rhetoric that led to the 2007 violence. Do not allow that madness to take root,” he said.
“The Maa community must keep united. Don’t buy into the violent agenda of our competitors. It will retard development. It will erase the gains we have made,” he added.
On his part, National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale called on the locals to shun divisive leaders.
