President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to skip presidential debate was both ‘clever and tactical’, claims Ondigi Abaya, an educationist.

On Tuesday, Uhuru claimed that the debate would have been a ‘waste’ of time adding that his main competitor, Raila Odinga, had nothing substantive to debate with him.

And Abaya says Uhuru could have faced humiliation should he have attended due to topical challenges the country is facing.

“Personally I think that was a good move to his side since it would have been difficult for him to answer issues such as high cost of living and unemployment.

“His opponent might have cornered him hence creating a negative impression with just two weeks to elections. It was a clever and tactical move,” he said.

Also, in his defense, Uhuru claimed that his development record for the past four years was evident and that it was pointless to repeat it on TV.

On his part in 90 minutes debate, Odinga said he would ensure the cost of living is reduced significantly should he take over in August.
