President Uhuru Kenyatta has dismissed allegations by the National Super Alliance (NASA) that the government wants to rig theAugust elections in favour of Jubilee Party.
Speaking when Jubilee took its reelection campaigns to the Baringo County, Uhuru rubbished the claims by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga-led opposition terming them false and contradicted by facts.
“This is the first government that is serving a term that is less than five years. If we wanted to rig elections we would have started by demanding that we serve five years but we have accepted that because we want democracy to prevail,” the President said on Sunday as quoted by the Capital News.
NASA has constantly alleged that Jubilee has the intention to manipulate next month’s poll claiming that the ruling coalition is aware that its presidential candidate President Kenyatta cannot defeat opposition flagbearer Raila in a free and fair process.
The opposition appealed the award of ballot papers printing tender awarded to Al-Ghurair alleging the company had entered into an agreement with Jubilee to print extra presidential papers for stuffing during the elections.
Further, the Head of State said the polls slated for next month will go on whether the opposition alliance is ready or not
He assured Kenyans that the government will ensure the August 8 general elections take place in a peaceful environment.
