As opposition NASA coalition and Jubilee Party lock horns in the race for the over 1.7 million votes in the Coast region, President Uhuru Kenyatta has been backed to get a better return this time round after a poor showing in 2013.
In the 2013 polls, ODM Party leader Raila Odinga garnered over 600,000 votes against Uhuru Kenyatta's 150,000. However, according to Political Analyst and Lawyer Abubakar Yusuf, Jubilee has penetrated the region this time round."All factors indicate that Jubilee would do better in this year's election compared to the last election," said Yusuf, as quoted by the Star.According to the 2013 results, Raila beat Uhuru in all the six coastal counties with the ODM party confirming its dominance in the region after sweeping all the 34 Members of County Assembly (MCA) slots in Mombasa. However, Raila's ODM has since lost key figures in the region to Jubilee including Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya, Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung'aro, Taita Taveta Senator Dan Mwazo among others.President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have been pitching camp in the region in a bid to sway the voters into the Jubilee formation.
