The region overwhelmingly voted for Mr Odinga and the president is keen to take over the votes from him by launching an offensive by visiting the region in a number of times since 2013.

Speaking on Tuesday at his Keumbu home turf, Tong’i challenged the Gusii community to support President Kenyatta adding that he has developed infrastructure in the region.

“I know Gusii community will vote the president based on his development record especially improvement of infrastructure. He has done well and I believe this time he will score highly from the region,” he said.

“My hope is that those who aren’t supporting him by now should change their minds so that as a community we get into government. We want more development and that can only be delivered by the president,” he said.

He slammed the opposition saying it was full of rhetoric and insisted that it will never form a government any time soon.

“Those of us in opposition have nothing really to challenge the president and that is why they always insult the president. As Gusii leaders, we will ensure the President gets the majority of votes and the mood of our people towards the Uhuru is incredible,” he said.
