Newly elected Kesses Member of Parliament Dr. Swarup Mishra has reiterated that President Uhuru Kenyatta won freely and fairly during the August 8 general elections whose results were later nullified by the Supreme court.
Speaking in Eldoret on Sunday, Mishra however said the Jubilee Party accepted the Supreme Court ruling that directed for a fresh presidential elections within 60 days just for the sake on peace.
"We know our candidate President Uhuru Kenyatta won in the August polls and we still believe the results represented the will of Kenyan people but because we in Jubilee believe in peace for our nation we accepted to abide by the court ruling," Mishra noted.
The Jubilee legislator said they have already embarked on a massive campaign across the country to ensure they beat their National Super Alliance (NASA) competitors by a bigger margin.
"Last time we won by about 1.4 million votes but this time round we want to widen that gap to at least 2 million. And this is why you're seeing us campaigning all over the country," he said.
IEBC declared Uhuru Kenyatta as the winner of the August 8 elections after he garnered 8,203,290 representing 54.27 per cent of the votes cast with the ODM and Nasa candidate Raila Odinga finishing second with 6,762,224 votes, representing 44.74 per cent of the votes cast.
