President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday took Jubilee campaigns to Trans Nzoia County, announcing that the Kitale Prison will be relocated elsewhere beginning next week to pave way for expansion of the town.
President Kenyatta said the prison that stand within the Kitale industrial park, will be moved to create space for the planned upgrade of the town.
“I want to announce that from next week, the Kitale prison within the town will be moved and the land will be managed by the county government,” said President Kenyatta.
Addressing a rally in Kitale Stadium during campaigns to seek votes for the Jubilee Party ahead of the August elections, President Kenyatta said the Government was committed to the transformative agenda of the country unlike those in Opposition who have no agenda for Kenyans.
Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, Governor Ken Lusaka (Bungoma), MPs Robert Pukose (Endebess), David Wafula (Saboti) and Janet Nangabo (Women Rep Trans Nzoia) said voters in the area have decided to rally their support for Jubilee.
Governor Lusaka said Jubilee development agenda speaks for itself, dismissing the Opposition as group of power hungry individuals who were just interested in creating positions for themselves.
“Jubilee has done a lot in terms of development that those in Opposition should be ashamed of themselves by criticizing the Government’s development projects,” said Mr Pukose.
Enumerating Jubilee’s development projects in Trans Nzoia County, the leaders said what the Government in four years could not be achieved by four previous governmnets in 70 years.
“What we have achieved in four years in Trans Nzoia and the country at large could not be done by four governmnets in 70 years,” said President Kenyatta.
The Head of State said the Government has started a bull station in Kitale at a cost of Shs 1billion, saying the move was aimed at improving the livestock sector in the region.
Mr Kenyatta said the Government has a measure to improving the dairy sector across the country, used Shs 700million to open more Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC) factories to transform the dairy sector.
He said Jubilee in the short period in office paid Shs 500million owed by KCC to dairy farmers, saying the previous governmnets failed to do so.
The Deputy President said the number of households connected to electricity in Trans Nzoia County in the last 50 years was 30,000 but when Jubilee took over four years ago, the number has since risen to 90,000.
“Our aim as Jubilee is to transform the lives of Kenyans through initiation of projects that have direct impact on their lives. But if you ask our opponents the plans they have, they will only tell you they want to remove Jubilee from power,” said Mr Ruto.
“Those in Opposition just want to get into power but have no agenda or any plan for this country,” added the Deputy President.
Mr Ruto told Kenyans to be wary of the Opposition who have been taken hostage by Anglo Leasing cartels who were responsible for drafting their manifesto.
“Kenyans should ignore the Opposition at the ballot because they are surrounded by cartels who were even behind the making of their manifest,” said Mr Ruto.
President Kenyatta said the Government was tarmacking 250 kilometer of roads in the agriculturally rich Trans Nzoia County to ease transportation challenges facing farmers in the area.
He laughed off sentiments by the Opposition that they were committed to helping farmers’ access to fertilizers among other agricultural inputs at cheaper rates and yet they failed to do when they served in senior positions in previous governmnets.
The President said although Opposition leaders have stopped hurling insults at the Jubilee Administration, they still have no agenda for the country.
“The Opposition cannot tell us they will do more when they had the opportunity but failed to deliver,” he said.
“When Jubilee took over in 2013, the cost of fertilizers per 90kgs was Shs 6,500. As we speak we have reduced to Shs 1,800 and further plan to reduce to Shs 1,200 by the end of the year,” said President Kenyatta.
President Kenyatta said Jubilee has also issued 120,000 title deeds to residents of Trans Nzoia County that the previous governmnets failed to achieve in 50 years.
