ODM legislators led by national chairman John Mbadi have condemned President Uhuru Kenyatta for 'mistreating' leaders in the Opposition.
Mbadi accused the head of state and his deputy William Ruto of turning public functions into a platform of insulting individuals, particularly from the opposition side.
“Yesterday, during their rally at Tononoka in Mombasa, they all turned the event into a governor Hassan Ali Joho bashing platform. Every speaker used the occasion to insult the governor and our party leader,” said Mbadi.
Mbadi added his party would not allow further intimidation of opposition lawmakers from the ruling government.
"President Uhuru should declare his interest in Mombasa and Turkana counties. He must tell us why he is hell bent on frustrating and sabotaging the governors of these two counties and why he is sending anonymous people to trail them."
"Uhuru Kenyatta must stop issuing utterances that are inflammatory, derogatory, unpresidential and utterly contemptuous of other leaders," he said.
The Suba MP who was addressing journalist at Orange House in Nairobi, asked Uhuru to uphold integrity at all times and refrain from acting in fury.
"As the head of state, the President is the symbol of national unity and must, at all times, uphold integrity of the presidency and respect the two levels of government as provided for in the constitution," he noted, Monday.
Other legislatures who accompanied Mbadi were MPs Junet Mohamed (Suna East), Abdikadir Aden (Balambala), Abdikadir Ore (Wajir West), Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba) and Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja).
