Speaking on Saturday during his address at the National TreePlanting Day at Moi Forces Academy, Uhuru acknowleged that the city  was dirty and there was need to dumb contractors.

"Instead of spending over Shs.700m contracting companies to clean up Nairobi, I have asked Governor Mike Sonko to hire the young people of Nairobi to do the job. Let the money go into the pockets of the youth since contractors have failed and only want to pocket county cash," Uhuru said.

The President tasked the Governor to ensure Nairobi residents live in a clean environment.

"This garbage menace has to end so that Kenyans can live in a clean environment. It is not a tough job," said Uhuru.

Uhuru further urged Sonko to fulfill his election promises and ensure the garbage menace is resolved.

Last week, Sonko warned Nairobi county executives that they will lose their jobs if they don't deliver. Sonko said this at City Hall when he flagged off equipment for cleaning and unblocking drainage.
