Omar said that while he does not support Miguna’s political stand and arguments, his manner of arrest, detention, and deportation contravenes the law.According to Omar, the law is clear on how suspects should be arrested, detained, presented to a court or deported.Omar, who ditched Wiper for Jubilee after losing in the August 8 election, said Miguna’s deportation to Canada tainted the country’s image in regards to human rights and rule of law.“I didn’t support what Miguna was advocating for but his arrest, detention, and deportation raised many questions on rule of law and human rights,” said Omar during an interview on a local radio station on Friday. The former Senator said it would have been better if police had arraigned the Canadian-based lawyer in court as earlier ordered. He said contravening the rule of law should be the last thing to happen, saying that Kenya has for a long time established itself as the defender of human rights.Miguna was deported to Canada on Tuesday night after being detained for five days. The self-declared NRM General was arrested on Friday last week at his Runda home before being taken to Githunguri police station and later to Lari police station as police ignored a court order to have him released on a Sh50, 000 cash bail.Miguna was arraigned in a Kajiado law court on Tuesday morning and deported hours later. He has vowed to fight back, contending that his rights were violated during his arrest, detention, and deportation. The opposition has said it will sue the Jubilee administration over Miguna's unlawful deportation even as the government vows to continue the crackdown on politicians who planned and administered Raila Odinga’s oath as the people’s president last week.
