Former Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung'aro is facing uncertain political times after his failed bid for Kilifi County governor position.
Mung'aro who lost to incumbent Amason Kingi even after mounting spirited campaigns was President Uhuru Kenyatta's point man in the region where ODM enjoys fanatical following.According to the IEBC final tally, Kingi won the seat after garnering over 209,000 votes with Mung'aro, the man who was tasked to deliver Kilifi votes to Jubilee, coming a distant third with just over 54,000 votes.Besides failing to clinch the governor position in the expansive county, Jubilee failed to win any parliamentary seat as all the sitting MPs who were defending their seats on Jubilee Party tickets were swept aside by the ODM wave.Apart from that, President Uhuru posted dismal performance in the county as NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga garnered over 86% of the votes, making it the county where Uhuru performed dismally in the six coastal counties. With his influence in Kilifi politics fading, as shown by his performance in the just-concluded polls, Mung'aro will now have to rethink his political strategy if he is to make a comeback.Appointment to the government may not be guaranteed if Mung'aro's delivery to Jubilee is anything to go by, a move that will leave the former Minority Whip in the National Assembly.
