Security officers attached to Kisii Senator Chris Obure had to evacuate him from a rally in Ogembo for his safety after youths allied to opposition disrupted the event on Tuesday evening.

The former ODM chairman was leading Jubilee campaigns in the region ahead of August polls and was accompanied by a host of local politicians.

Trouble started when Obure launched a scathing attack on NASA leader Raila Odinga and area Governor James Ongwae whom he accused of sabotaging development.

Moments later, his speech was interrupted by a group of rowdy youths who hurled stones on the caravan with Obure being the prime target.

Security officers were forced to evacuate the veteran politician from the scene as pro-NASA chants dominated the small town of Ogembo, located about 15KM from Kisii town.

With his vehicle reportedly smashed, Obure was driven to Kisii town as Pro-NASA youths turned on Jubilee supporters who had turned out for the roadside rally.

Neither Governor James Ongwae nor senator Obure have come out to speak about the Tuesday’s incident that left scores of people injured.
