Former Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro has asked Coast NASA MPs who feel sidelined in the coalition to decamp to the President Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee party and focus on restructuring their political careers ahead of the 2022 general elections.
Speaking in Kilifi on Saturday, Mung’aro argued that the fact that Coast legislators were not included in the allocation of key leadership positions in the 12th Parliament is an indication that the opposition does not have the region’s interests at heart.
"It is time they realigned themselves with Jubilee, which is a trustworthy coalition. NASA has little regard for leaders from the Coast region. It shall never offer the MPs anything good for their loyalty to the coalition," said Mung'aro.
"I welcome them to join us in working with DP William Ruto on his 2022 presidential bid," he added.
This comes after Coast MPs decried not been included in the new leadership lineup in Parliament.
The MPs, led by Msambweni MP Suleiman Dori and his Likoni counterpart Mishi Mboko said they will not recognise the list.
They further threatened to decamp to a party where they will be recognised.
The MPs faulted NASA’s top leadership for failing to involve them in the selection exercise in a bid to come up with a balanced list.
“This has revealed that the support we have given the alliance was in vain. We will seek a place where we will be recognised so we can work effectively for our people. We should be rewarded for our hard work,” said Dori.
The contentious NASA list has Suba South MP John Mbadi (ODM) as the Minority Leader, Kathiani MP Robert Mbui (Wiper) as his deputy, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed (ODM) as Minority Whip and Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa (Ford Kenya) as his deputy.
