President Uhuru Kenyatta has sworn that he will not sign any Bill allowing for the a pay rise by MPs.
Speaking on Thursday after it emerged that some MPs were planning to go against the Salaries and Remuneration Commission’s pay structure for the MPs, Kenyatta said if sworn in as president, he will not sign it for whatsoever reasons.
“I am stating it now even as I wait for the Supreme Court to rule on my election, if it rules in my favour, I am saying before you I swear, I shall not sign that law,” he said.
He further called on NASA leader to come out clearnly and take the same stance, that if he takes office, depending on outcome of the case at the Supreme Court, he will not sign the Bill.
On a separate address, MPs allied to the ODM clarified that MPs who had spoken against the SRC structure were not speaking for the party, which supports prudent management of public resources.
“We have all the machinery at our disposal including blocking the approval of Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Officers and other key appointments,” said Alego Usonga MP-elect Samuel Atandi as quoted by the Nation.
MPs kicked a storm on Wednesday when HomaBay’s Women Rep elect Gladys Wanga said the will push for a review of the salaries that were set by the SRC, adding that the take home cash was not enough.
