Jubilee Chief Campaigner in Ukambani region Joe Mutambu was severely injured on Tuesday evening following an attack by supporters allied to opposition leader Raila Odinga.
The attack comes barely a week after President Uhuru Kenyatta met several Kamba leaders in his bid to make inroads to the region perceived to be an opposition stronghold.
And trouble started when the former Mwingi Central MP made a stop with a number of Jubilee team leaders to address locals in Mwingi town.
However, his address was short-lived as NASA supporters started hurling stones and chanting anti-Jubilee slogans.
A vehicle believed to be owned by the former legislator, and in which he was driving in, was severely smashed during the altercation.
Police had to fire severally to disperse the angry opposition followers who had threatened to lynch Mutambu and the team.
Rebellious Ukambani leaders, who at some point were in opposition, have been leading intensive campaigns in the region on behalf of Uhuru Kenyatta.
The crowd was contained by security forces after which the Jubilee campaign team was escorted out of the Lower Eastern town.
