President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked the youth in Nairobi to shun violence and divisive talk and instead embrace unity.
Speaking when he attended the swearing in ceremony of incoming Nairobi county governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko at Uhuru Park Monday, the president asked young people in the county to embrace their neighbours and reject leaders who divide them along ethnic lines.
"To our young people, love your neighbour. Do not fight them because they are not from your tribe because at the end of the day they are the closest you have should problems arise.Say no to politicians who are interested in setting you up against each other because of tribe," Uhuru said.
His sentiments came barely weeks after violent protests rocked some parts of the city following the announcement of the presidential results.
The protesting youth believed to be supporters of opposition coalition presidential contender Raila Odinga engaged police in running battles in Mathare and Kibera moments after the IEBC had declared the president the winner of the August 8 polls.
