Speaking on Thursday during the memorial service of the late Cabinet Secretary, Kenyatta further said he had lost a friend who stood by him during all times.

“I am going to miss walking with a friend who truly cared for me, not only as the President, but as a friend and a fellow human being. To the family, to Mrs. Nkaissery, you can count on me; in and out of Government, I will always be there for you and your family,” said the president.

Nkaissery died on Saturday last week, moments after collapsing at his Karen home.

His death has been described as a big blow to the country, coming just a month to the August 8 General Election.

Nkaissery served in the military for 29 years where he ascended to the rank of Major General.

He later joined politics in 2002.

In 2007, Nkaissery was elected a member a parliament for Kajiado Central on an ODM ticket.

He served as Assistant Minister for Internal Security in the Grand coalition government between 2008-2013.

In November 2014, President Uhuru appointed Nkaissery as Interior CS to replace Joseph Lenku who was sacked for failing to secure the country following two massacres by the al Shabaab.
