The locals warn that Uhuru’s re-election in 2017 now depends on his ability to tame corruption.

According to the locals, the Jubilee government has been hit by major graft scandals whose perpetrators have not been brought to book.

Speaking to HiviSaSa.Com on Sunday, the locals told the President to take pro-active measures in getting rid of graft from his government.

“President Kenyatta has to stand firm and take action against perpetrators of graft if he still wants to be re-elected in 2017,” said Jane Kinuthia, a social and development lecturer at a local University in Limuru.

Ms Kinuthia said that President Uhuru has the personal responsibility to hit on perpetrators of corruption if agencies mandated to tame the vice are unable to do their work.

“It is time for him (the President) to make personal decisions and get rid of corruption if he wants to be endorsed for a second term in 2017,” she added.

The lecturer noted that Kenyans are losing hope in his government in regards to corruption.

“Failure by President Uhuru’s government to address graft will see it lose to the opposition in 2017” said Joseph Mburu, a social worker in Ruaka.

Mr Mburu noted that the opposition is already capitalising on Jubilee government ineffectiveness to fight graft to gain political mileage” he said.

He observed that the opposition will use graft as a key campaigning tool to dislodge Jubilee from power in 2017.

The locals noted that the recent alleged Sh5 Billion scam at Afya House has shocked the country.

“Kenyans are worried over the rising graft in government and they are not happy with it,” said Peter Ngure, a political analyst.

Mr Ngure observed that corruption will be a hindering block for Uhuru’s re-election in 2017.

“If the President and his government does not tame graft in the remaining few months, then his hopes for re-election will be dealt a blow,” he said.

Ngure said that the opposition is already using the issue of corruption to campaign against Uhuru’s re-election in 2017.

A section of leaders and Kenyans have reacted angrily to the recent corruption scam at the Health Ministry.

Last week a leaked audit report revealed theft of Sh5Billion at Afya House with pressure mounting on Health CS Cleophas Mailu and his Principal Secretary Nicholas Muraguri to resign.

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commmission detectives on Friday stormed Afya House and took away crucial documents they say will help them in investigating the scam that has named some of President Kenyatta’s family members as beneficiaries.

The Health Ministry on Sunday defended itself against the scam saying that no money has been lost and that it has invited an international audit firm to audit its system.

The Afya House scam has elicited reactions with opposition leaders and Kenyans hitting at the President Uhuru Kenyatta government for failing to tame corruption.
