The Muslim community in Malindi now wants the Jubilee campaign team in Kilifi replaced ahead of the repeat presidential election. According to members of the community, former Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro is not the right man to spearhead Jubilee campaigns in Kilifi County. They argued that Mung’aro has lost control over the region following his loss to Governor Amason Kingi of ODM.Led by Aboud Swaleh Batheif, a Jubilee Party activist, the community members said President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto stand no chance of garnering more votes than NASA leader Raila Odinga if they retain their August poll campaign team.Speaking on Saturday in Malindi, Batheif also called upon Tourism CS Najib Balala to go to the grassroots to meet voters rather than holding meetings in hotels.Balala replaced businessman Suleiman Shabhal as head of the Jubilee campaign team in Coast region.“Balala, be down-to-earth, go to the grassroots and meet the voters,” said Batheif, as quoted by the Star. The members also said they were discouraged by the August election after the party’s top brass failed to involve them during campaigns and instead used ‘weak politicians’.
