Kenyans are waiting with bated breath for President Uhuru Kenyatta to unveil his second-term cabinet.

One of the things that they will be looking out in the cabinet structure is a gender balance.

Factors such as credentials, cronyism, regional representation and the Jubilee agenda are expected to inform the Uhuru Kenyatta's cabinet choices.

He is facing the most delicate of balancing acts.

The National Gender and Equality Commission expects the selections to meet the two-thirds constitutional threshold.

Currently, only five ladies are serving in Uhuru's 20-strong cabinet.

Expectations are rife that that number will go up.

Fida has said in the past that it is more than willing to furnish the president with advice on suitable female candidates.
