President Uhuru Kenyatta's statement which he made at Kongowea market, Mombasa on Monday instructing traders not to pay taxes to the Mombasa County Government has landed him in trouble with former Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Miguna Miguna blasting him over the statement.

In his address, Uhuru promised traders that he will probe why the market has not been opened despite being fully funded by the national  government.

The President further asked residents not to pay taxes to the Hassan Joho-led county government if they are not offered services.

"I have said do not pay taxes until you get services.Any police officer used to harass citizens to pay taxes will be the one to go home," the President said.

But while responding to the President,Miguna said that Uhuru's statement is a threat to devolution even as he maintained that Kenyans will resist any attempt to kill the devolved system of governance.

"By inciting traders not to pay tax at Kongowea Market @UKenyatta is fighting devolution the same way he wants to make Kenya despotic," said the firebrand lawyer-cum-politician in a statement on his twitter handle.
