At a time when supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party in Kisumu, was seen as politically suicidal, former Nominated Senator Joy Gwendo decided to stick with him to the bitter end.
The youthful Gwendo announced her arrival into the political scene in 2013 when the TNA party nominated her to the Senate.
Her nomination took many by surprise as she was previously unknown.
Ahead of the 2017 election, hoping to spread her political tentacle, the lawmaker declared her interest on the Kisumu East parliamentary seat on a Jubilee ticket.
Gwendo's decision to vie on a Jubilee party ticket gave her a false start as many people opined that she had already lost the contest.
Even though she was determined to root out the incumbent, Gwendo tirelessly campaigned for President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election.
The lawmaker's attempt to go against the wave in the opposition stronghold backfired when she lost the seat to incumbent Shakeel Shabir and President Kenyatta performed dismally in the lake side city.
So what next for her? So far, the President is yet to notice her in respect to state appointments. Only four positions are remaining in the recently-created Chief Administrative Secretary slots.
Could she fill one of them? Could she be appointed to a Principal Secretary position? Only time will tell.
