President Uhuru Kenyatta's niece Nana Gecaga has been formally appointed as the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) Managing Director for a period of three years.
In a confirmation statement read by the KICC board chairman Omingo Magara on Thursday, Gecaga was appointed following a competitive recruitment process and is set to officially assume office on January 2, 2017.
"In her time she has led the corporation in the successful execution of high profile international conferences like the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)," Magara said.
Tourism Canet Secretary Najib Balala appointed Nana Gecaga KICC managing Director on April 4 but in an acting capacity.
She has been tasked with leading the management team in developing and implementing KICC's strategic plan, dubbed the 'National Meetings, Incentive Travel, and Conferences & Exhibitions (MICE) Strategy'.
She formerly worked as Balala's marketing and special programmes advisor.
