A day after the Supreme Court upheld his re-election, President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent out a message to Kenyans.
The president's spokesperson Mr. Manoah Esipisu addressed journalists at Harambee House in a televised speech.
Esipisu's wide-ranging speech focused on the Supreme Court ruling and the threats to national unity.
He implored Kenyans to jealously guard the peace warning that acts that resulted in injury and destruction of property were illegality.
''Our region and indeed the world is littered with dysfunctional countries that fail the test of democracy. We as Kenyans must jealously guard our nationhood and our hard-won peace and security. When dissent escalates and causes injury to Kenyans it becomes illegality... The presidency condemns perpetrators of such reckless dissent. The ruling of the Supreme Court yesterday is a vote for the constitutional path. It is a resounding triumph of the rule of law over the tragedy of chaotic disorder.'' Mr. Esipisu said.
Uhuru's message comes in the wake of a Supreme Court decision that the opposition has disparaged as one delivered under duress and intimidation.
