President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have thanked Kenyans for trusting in their leadership and electing them once again.

Speaking on Sunday during a church service in Huruma, the duo insisted that it was time Kenyans came together for the sake of peace.

Kenyatta urged Kenyans to put aside their political differences, and work together in healing the nation, which is evidently divided after this year’s election.

“To be able to celebrate the beauty of diversity, and not to use the diversity to fight one another,” said Kenyatta.

He added: “My first assignment is peace for all Kenyans. Second, is Kenyans’ unity, which will lay the foundation for a better Kenya. We live in a democratic country where it is allowed to compete against one another, but we should not compete on the basis of tribe or color,”

“I want to request our competitors to come together, so that we plan on what we want to achieve for Kenyans, Kenyans do not want to shed blood,”

Kenyata is set to be sworn in on Tuesday at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani, an event that is set to be attended by many dignitaries.

Raila’s NASA has said they will have a parallel rally at Jacaranda, a gathering police officers have termed illegal.
