This time round, Mama Ngina Kenyatta has urged youths in Gatundu South Constituency to brace for a tight battle in ensuring the Head of State secures a second term in office.

Speaking Thursday at Gitundu Village in Uhuru’s mother constituency, Citizen Tv reports, the former First Lady said everyone who has a voter’s card should “wake up early in the morning to vote in Uhuru because the war won’t be easy” come August 8.

She called on the presidential race a tough “war”.

She stated that the only way to stamp victory for her son was for them to stand together.

Mama Ngina Kenyatta referred to this year’s presidential race as a huge task that can only be achieved if youths come out in large numbers to vote in the Jubilee team.

The President’s mother told mourners of a family relative, Paul Muhoho Gathecha; that her son had a vision for the country that is yet to reach completion and only a second term as Head of State would have him (Uhuru) achieve his dreams for the Kenyan people.

This latest remark by Mama Ngina Kenyatta amplifies her efforts in mobilizing support for his son’s re-election. Early this year, she visited a longtime family friend and retired President Daniel Moi at his Kabarak home in Nakuru County a visit that reportedly led to KANU shying away from the opposition team NASA.

Mama Ngina Kenyatta is said to have used the opportunity to call on the second president of the country to talk to his son, Gideon Moi, to back Uhuru Kenyatta’s bid for office this year.

Less than a month later, President Uhuru Kenyatta paid the retired president a courtesy visit at his Kabarnet gardens home in Nairobi where he (Uhuru) also met Moi’s son Gideon Moi who is also Baringo County senator and chair to independence party KANU.

KANU eventually announced it will support President Uhuru’s re-election bid but field candidates in all other elective seats.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, will battle to retain their term in office against their biggest rival NASA in the August 8 election. NASA is yet to front a flagbearer to counter the already compact Jubilee team.

NASA is still conducting discussions on who to front as flag bearer from the four leaders of the coalition; Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi.

Mombasa governor Hassan Joho and Siaya Senator James Orengo both from ODM (NASA’s affiliate party) have however indicated Raila Odinga will lead the team.
