Despite many thinking that his decades-long political career is over after suffering a humiliating defeat in his quest for Kwale Senator in 2013, Chirau Ali Mwakwere has roared back to life.
The re-entry of Mwakwere into politics after a stint as an Ambassador has shaped the county's politics as far as the supremacy battle between President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee and Raila Odinga's NASA coalition is concerned.Mwakwere was Deputy President’s William Ruto's URP diehard supporter in the run to the 2013 polls, something that cost his political career as the party was very unpopular on the ground.The former Matuga MP who has since joined NASA affiliate party Wiper has now emerged as President Uhuru Kenyatta's nightmare in his quest to sway the county into the Jubilee formation.The recent threat by President Uhuru Kenyatta to expose the veteran politician seems to be perfectly working for the him as his popularity on the ground seems to be rising with each passing day, while Jubilee's fame keeps on going down.Mwakwere who has emerged as NASA's biggest asset in Kwale, keeps on firing salvo after salvo at President Kenyatta's Jubilee government. He even dared the President to expose him, adding that no one can threaten him.“I heard my file will be opened. Please, let them make it public as soon as possible. I am a clean man and everyone knows that. We will tell the truth during campaigns. Nobody will stop us from discussing issue of land and minerals. Nobody threatens Mwakwere,” he said after he was cleared by IEBC to run for governor.
