Thousands of youths are set to pocket millions of shillings following President Uhuru Kenyatta’s order that young people at NYS make uniforms of all security forces in the country.
The move is expected to create jobs for thousands of young Kenyans though textile and the manufacturing industries, which collapsed many years ago. President Kenyatta says he is keen to revive the industries as he serves his final term.
Through the Tuko Tayari campaign, the head of state said his order for the uniforms to be made at the National Youth Service Textile and Garment Technology Institute is one of the steps he is making towards building the productive capacity of the youth in Kenya.
Many of the manufacturing industries that once thrived are now dead, with the President’s renewed focus giving hope that such companies, such as Rivatex, will do well, once again.
With the ready market in Kenya for locally produced goods, the industries are set to employ millions of youths and help people wear new clothes. At the moment, many Kenyans can only afford second-hand — mitumba — clothes.
Developing the manufacturing industry is part of President Kenyatta’s “Big Four” agenda for his final term. His other areas of focus include affordable housing, food security, and affordable healthcare.
