During his State of The Nation address early this month, President Uhuru Kenyatta stated that there will be pay cuts for elected leaders after the August general election.
The decision has now forced the Nairobi County Assembly, under Governor Evans Kidero, to reduce it’s budget for the 2017/018 financial year.
The assembly has cut Sh87.9million off its 2017/18 budget.
In the proposed budget estimates for the 2017/18 budget, the assembly has proposed a budget of sh1.614 billion comprising of staff emoluments – sh697.3 million, while cost of goods and services are at 596.12 million, sh320.76 million has been proposed for capital and development.
The assembly has also adhered to the budget ceilings set of sh1.614billion with sh1.129billion going towards recurrent and sh321million towards capital and development.
In the new budget, the assembly speaker will get a new official residence. Replacement of a new mace, installation of Ipads for the members, are also provided for in the budget.
