When Uhuru Kenyatta made his first stab at the presidency in 2002 on a KANU ticket, Mombasa was firmly in the opposition NARC. But against expectations of many, Amina Abdallah, then in her early 30s emerged as his main link in the Coastal city. And that marked the beginning of their long political journey.
Uhuru was trounced by Mwai Kibaki. However, for Amina, her role in the KANU campaigns earned her a slot in Parliament as nominated MP.
In 2007 after KANU supported President Mwai Kibaki's re-election, Amina was nominated for the second time.
She tried her luck in elective politics in 2013, then vying for Kisauni MP on Uhuru's TNA party but was defeated by Rashid Bedzimba of ODM. And once again, she was nominated to Parliament for a record third time.
In the 2017 general election, she contested the Mombasa Women Representative seat on a Jubilee ticket but once again the ODM candidate dimmed her dreams as Asha Hussein clinched the seat.
The former MP has since maintained low political profile since 2017. With President Uhuru Kenyatta yet to fill some key government positions, is the 48-year-old among those to benefit and be given a political lifeline?
