The Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced that plans are underway to clip some powers of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In the previous arrangements, the president and his deputy were allowed to employ their own personal staff such as secretaries, drivers, and cooks but the new measure will ensure these staffs are hired by the commission.
"The commission shall appoint personal staffs for the president, deputies, and former presidents based on an establishment of the commission," reads a draft from PSC chairperson Margaret Kobia.
"Personal staffs shall serve at the pleasure of the president, deputies, and retired presidents as for such a period that will be determined by the commission,"
The decision to clip the powers may be traced back to the Controller of Budget report that indicated Sh1 billion had been used as salaries for the president's personal staff between June 2016 to February 2017.
