Nairobi residents have been asked to vote for Jubilee candidates led by Senator Mike Sonko as the governor in the upcoming August 8 polls.
According to President Uhuru, Sonko and his running mate Polycarp Igathe is the team that will restore the city’s lost glory.
He said city residents have suffered much under the Governor Evans Kidero-led administration hence the need to elect the Sonko team.
“We know you have suffered under the current county leadership, but we assure you that Sonko and his team will transform that. The time to restore the glory of Nairobi is now and you hold the key to that change. Vote for Jubilee candidates and you will see how we will transform this city," said Uhuru during his campaign in Nairobi Friday.
He was accompanied by his deputy William Ruto among other Jubilee Party aspirants and members.
He urged Nairobians to embrace the six-piece voting system.
"We can only beat our competitors by having a united front in the elections...from the presidency to MCA seats in Nairobi,” added Uhuru as quoted by the Star.
He at the same time asked independent candidates Peter Kenneth (governor) and Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru to withdraw from their respective races and support Jubilee.
Kenneth, the former Gatanga MP lost to Sonko in the JP primaries before opting to go independent.
"It is time to abandon your bid and support the winning team of Sonko-Igathe. Peter Kenneth, njoo tufanye kazi, kazi yako tuko nayo. Mji wa Nairobi wachia Mike Sonko ambaye watu walichagua," he ," Uhuru told Kenneth.
"I know Denno more than most of you and he is my friend. I am calling on him to help us win. Once Jubilee is elected we will be with him in the government," Uhuru told Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru.
Waweru who is defending his seat on an independent ticket lost to John Kiarie during the Jubilee nominations.
