President Uhuru Kenyatta-owned Radio station, Kameme FM, has lashed out at the National Council of Churches of Kenya's (NCCK) General Secretary Canon Peter Karanja following his calls for creation of a Prime Minister position. In its Monday breakfast show, the station's presenters Gatonye Wa Mbugua and Mzee Kiengei hit out at Karanja whom they said had become 'the spiritual wing of NASA' and can no longer be trusted to 'speak anything neutral on Kenya's politics'."Reverend Karanja, you have decided that the people of Kenya did not know what they were doing when they elected President Kenyatta to be their leader. You are now here asking us to create a position for Raila. We know who you are anyway," said Gatonye, a seasoned radio presenter who is the station's head of radio. The duo further asked Karanja where he was when "your People's President was sworn in, and why he continues to disregard the rule of law".The NCCK General Secretary has proposed expansion of the executive to allow the President to appoint a Prime Minister, two deputies and official leader of the opposition for 'inclusivity in government'.According to Karanja's proposal, the PM and his two deputies will sit in the Cabinet and answer questions from Parliament."We call for the restoration of the position of official opposition leader and his deputy in Parliament as it was in the old constitution," Karanja said last weekend. He says creation of the official opposition leader will dignify the opposition in its bid to hold the government of the day to account.
