President Uhuru Kenyatta’s relative is among suppliers who received millions of shillings from the National Youth Service payments.
Gathecha Muhoho, who is President Uhuru’s mother’s brother, received up to Sh68 million through his company PetroKenya Oil Limited.
Gathecha co-owns the company together with Gor Semalang’o.
According to sources, PetroKenya was contracted by Horizon Limited which was the company contracted direct by NYS to supply oil to its machines.
It was PetroKenya that was eventually paid by NYS after it sought a legal action when Horizon Limited was unable to pay it after the delivery.
The court ordered PetroKenya be paid Sh68 million after the court battle which led to attachment of Horizon Limited's property.
Interestingly, Horizon Limited is owned by Ben Gethi, a man who was adversely mentioned in the first scandal at NYS during the tenure of Ann Waiguru as Devolution CS.
"I delivered the fuel to NYS in the tender awarded to Gethi's Horizon Ltd, but we did not know he would be unable to pay for it," Semalango told a local daily.
However, there are no red flags that the payments to PetroKenya were out of order.
