The Uhuruto government, in line with its stated aim of creating jobs and spurring economic growth, announced a power tariff cut to the public. The announcement has generated huge excitement, especially amongst manufacturers.Kenya is following the footsteps of countries such as Rwanda, Ethiopia, and South Africa, countries that have special tariffs for manufacturers.Manufacturers in the country had pushed for the policy move but Kenya Power expressed hesitation as it feared that its bottom line would be significantly reduced.“It has taken 10 years for the government to appreciate low power cost is about the economy as opposed to short-term impact on Kenya Power,” said Carole Kariuki, chief executive of Kenya Private Sector Alliance (Kepsa), according to a story by the East African.Kenya Power has no choice but to fully implement the power tariff cut that was contained in the Jubilee manifesto.
