Visibly agitated President Kenyatta on Thursday called for accountability in county governments during his state of the nation address in parliament.

Speaking to the writer on Friday, Kiogoro MCA questioned President Kenyatta’s attitude towards county governments, accusing him of sabotage.

“The president has no moral authority to lecture county governments on how to spend cash allocated to them. I am disappointed that he has imposed himself as head boy and now wants to control counties,” said Samuel Apoko.

“From the onset, he his anti-devolution and that is manifested in the delay of cash from treasury to counties. His attitude to the county governments is wanting. He knows well how he has sabotaged devolution,” he added.

Apoko said the county assemblies were doing their job in putting counties in check, but wondered why Kenyatta was lecturing counties yet the national government is marred in a host of corruption scandals.

“As MCAs, we know our obligations and we have done well in ensuring resources are used prudently by county executives,” Apoko noted.

“But it’s ironical that the President is lecturing counties yet his government is scandalous. He hasn’t told us about NYS, Euro bond and National youth fund. He should clean his government before turning to county governments,” said the ODM MCA.
